Our customers want materials that are as strong and tough as possible – or flexible and elastic. Or both. Materials that are as lightweight as possible, and also retain their shape under extremely high or low temperature conditions. Materials that defy wind and weather, and that don’t wear down under continuous strain. They should also feature an outstanding cost/benefit profile, and be quickly and easily formable into virtually any shape. In short, our customers want materials whose properties can be adapted to whatever purpose they desire. Our plastics meet these requirements.

A new plastic specialty for online paintable car parts
Ultramid® TOP 3000 is a big step forward in replacing exterior metal
parts in automotive construction.
With the new plastic specialty, the aim to integrate plastic parts into
the automotive manufacturing process already at an early stage of construction
has come into reach. The material is online paintable. The plastic parts
made of Ultramid® TOP 3000 can go through the paint line from the very
start – and that without sacrificing any of the plastic’s extraordinary
properties.
Ultramid® TOP 3000 is the intelligent solution for online painting.
The plastics specialty can be successfully painted in Class-A quality in
various paint lines under different conditions and concepts. It has become
evident that each process has to be considered individually.

QUALITY PRODUCTS FROM BASF – THE BENCHMARK IN THERMAL INSULATION
FOR OVER 50 YEARS
4 Neopor® QUALITY PRODUCTS FROM BASF STYROPOR®
Behind this name lies a success story that is everyone’s goal.
BASF discovered a classic over 50 years ago in expandable polystyrene (EPS).
Under the tradename Styropor®, EPS is now the solution for efficient
insulation and safe packaging worldwide.
WITH Neopor®, BASF has taken the classic Styropor® a step further.
This new material for modern insulating materials is foamed just like Styropor®
and processed to boards and moulded parts.
THE VITAL DIFFERENCE can be seen with the naked eye in the silver-grey colour.
In Neopor®, graphite is added to the material, absorbing and reflecting
heat radiation and improving the insulating performance of EPS by up to
20 %.
PRODUCTS MADE FROM THE MATERIAL NEOPOR® from BASF are an economic investment
in the future and add to the value of a property.
Neopor® – CONTINUOUS INSULATION FROM THE BASEMENT
TO THE ROOF
With applications using Neopor®, you can continue a general structured
insulating concept throughout the house. From the basement to the roof,
from external insulation in the thermal insulation composite system to internal
insulation, you can build on proven applications from a material that offers
the highest efficiency.
In new builds and renovation projects, you can achieve optimal thermal insulation
that sustainably enhances the fabric of the building and retains the value
of the property for some time.

Basotect® - In Construction and Industrial Applications
Basotect® is a flexible, open-cell foam made from
melamine resin, a thermoset polymer. Basotect’s
characteristic feature is its three-dimensional network structure consisting of slender and thus
easily shaped filaments.
Basotect®’s high sound absorption capacity and
safe fire characteristics make Basotect G and UF
ideal for use as sound insulation in buildings.
Decoratively designed acoustic panels, suspend-
ed baffles and metal ceiling panels backed with
Basotect significantly and measurably improve
the acoustics. A t the same time, Basotect panel-
ing opens up interesting design options.

“Styrodur® C, Environmentally friendly
extruded polystyrene free of
CFC, HCFC, and HFC – filled
with air.”
The excellent performance of Styrodur® C green polystyrene
foam insulation board and its versatility make it the first choice
for the construction and civil engineering industry across the
whole continent.
Thermal insulation does
more than protect the
climate
Effective thermal insulation with
Styrodur® C makes an important
contribution towards reducing
emissions of carbon dioxide
(CO2), the main greenhouse gas
responsible for global warming.
Styrodur® C reduces energy
consumption, with the result that
investment in thermal insulation
can be recouped within a short
time. Buildings that are insulated
with Styrodur® C are more healthy
and comfortable to live in, and
the fabric of the building is
protected from the effects of
high and low temperatures and
from moisture. This prolongs the
life of buildings and enhances
their value. Styrodur® C is the
environmentally friendly insulating
material with added value.

Luran® Crystal Clear (SAN)
A particularly low level of inherent color and thus an outstanding clarity
– these are the decisive advantages of Luran ® Crystal Clear,
BASF’s new SAN type. This material is well-suited for all applications
with high design demands such as packaging for cosmetics, household
applications as well as lighting technology.
The low level of inherent color and minimal color fl uctuations mean that
Luran® Crystal Clear is also especially suitable for self-coloring.
Plastics Portal : http://www.plasticsportal.com BASF ‘s Plastics and Performance Chemicals
BASF South Africa offers tailor-made products and system solutions that
include a broad range of high-value performance chemicals for the automotive,
oil, paper, packaging, textile, construction, coatings, printing and leather
industries.
BASF South Africa is a leading supplier of styrenics products, with a portfolio
that includes commodity products for the packaging, refrigeration and construction
industries, as well as a range of specialised styrene copolymers primarily
used in the automotive and electronic market segments, and innovative engineering
polymers marketed directly to specialised converters and end users.
Given the increasing role played by plastics in energy-efficient solutions
worldwide, BASF Plastics is spearheading the development of new applications
for a growing range of plastic materials suitable for a range of industries
– from packaging and construction to automotive.
Case study – Pioneer in plastics
Almost eight decades ago, BASF invented polystyrene. With intensive research
and development, the group has added styrene copolymers, styrene foams,
engineering plastics (like nylons and acetals) to its product range.
Building on this pioneering track record, BASF
is introducing an innovation to the field of bioplastics. The new
Ecovio L Foam – a refinement of Ecovio, the first plastic made from
renewable raw materials – is used to produce fast-food boxes or food-product trays.
Ecovio packaging can be discarded with organic waste
where
micro-organisms
break it down into water and
carbon dioxide. As
theglobal
trend towards environmentally friendly packaging becomes more
entrenched in Africa, consumer demand is expected to support the widespread
adoption of these containers.
BASF is one of the world’s leading plastics manufacturers,
and has played a major role in shaping developments in this field.
One of our greatest strengths lies in our ability to develop the properties
of plastics to meet the requirements of our customers. Especially durable,
especially easy to process, especially flame-resistant –we can fulfill
just about any wish. For many years now, we have also been producing biodegradable
plastics. With Ecoflex®, for example, we are one of the leaders on the
market in this field. A recent development, Ecovio®, is a biodegradable
plastic based on renewable raw materials.

These and many other innovations demonstrate that plastics are the most
ecologically efficient materials of the 21st century.

Elastogran is the market and technology leader paving the way with thermoplastic
and cellular special elastomers – both highly refined specialties.
MULTI-TALENTED ELASTOLLAN®
Elastollan® is an innovative, multi-talented material with incredible
potential. A thermoplastic PU elastomer (TPU) developed, produced and
marketed by Elastogran, it can be processed using a variety of targeted
procedures. It offers an outstanding combination of elasticity and resilience,
guaranteed over a broad temperature range. It is abrasion, impact, oil
and grease resistant, tear and buckle proof, and has an elastic memory.
It can even be modified to suit a specific application, for example by
reinforcing it with glass fibers.
